Doctor Rosey offers Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture services to her patients.

There are several different modalities or services available under the TCM umbrella. This article aims to provide you with a brief explanation of what each of these services is and how it works.

Let’s start with Acupuncture Services

Acupuncture

acupuncture services

Acupuncture has been used by the Chinese for centuries, although the term is relatively new to westerners. It is often used today for pain relief in the United States and Europe and many other countries. In China, acupuncture services have been considered both a medical and spiritual practice.

Acupuncture is an important part of traditional Chinese medicine and part of conventional Chinese medical practice. This service is where thin, sterile needles are placed into the human body at specific points. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice with beneficial traditional Chinese medicine principles and values.

It is a great additional tool to enhance the benefits of western treatment. It can be an effective tool to help relieve pain and help individuals live healthy lives.

Herbal Medicine

Luckily, there are many herbal preparations available today that offer a safe, gentle alternative to chemical based drugs. If you are suffering from a disease or condition, you may want to speak to your doctor about a prescription option that may be better suited for your needs.

However, if you would prefer to treat disease and symptoms without having to take prescription drugs, you may want to consider herbal medicine services. Fortunately, there are plenty of herbal remedies that can help you do away with prescription drugs.

Cosmetic Acupuncture Services

Cosmetic acupuncture is a non-surgical alternative to surgery. It involves the use of acupuncture to enhance skin and treat the aging process. Practitioners who perform cosmetic acupuncture believe that a variety of pressure points on the body, lead to the various physiological functions that we experience.

For example, pressure at the ears will affect a person’s hearing; pressure in the nose will impact the person’s sense of smell; and pressure in the wrist will affect a person’s ability to type. In addition, different pressure points are thought to correspond to specific mental and emotional states.

By using pressure points on the body and performing acupressure on these points, practitioners believe that they can balance the mind, body and emotions of an individual and improve his or her quality of life.

Although there are some minor side effects of cosmetic acupuncture, most patients report feeling refreshed and free from pain after only one session. The benefits of this treatment do not end with improving one’s appearance! It is also used to treat depression and anxiety, manage blood circulation and relieve stress.

Practitioners also believe that this procedure can help reduce wrinkles and fine lines. It can also promote better self-esteem and strengthen the immune system.

Cupping (Fire Cupping Treatments)

Fire cupping services or cupping therapy is a simple yet effective technique used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Cupping assist’s the recovery process for a variety of illnesses and physical presentations. It is most commonly used in clinical practice to relieve muscle pain and speed up muscle recovery through the stimulation of blood flow within the energetic channels and blood vessels.

Cupping creates a small micro trauma response where the tissue becomes temporarily irritated. That signifies to the body’s immune system and local area that it is in need of care and recovery.

It is a powerful tool in ‘kicking the body’s backside’ to get a move on with blood flow and cellular activity. Cupping is powerful in removing Qi (energy) stagnation (blockages). These blockages are powerful in the formation of almost any disease creation and prognosis. Therefore it is important to encourage the body to effectively move it’s Qi and blood.

Meditation Options

If stress has over taken you or you’re feeling frazzled, tense and anxious, try incorporating meditation into your day. Just spending a couple of minutes in meditation will restore your peace and inner calm.

Anyone can meditate. It is easy and cheap, and it does not need any special equipment. By learning how to meditate you can easily practice meditation no matter where you’re located.

There are many different styles and techniques. I found that some of the most relaxing were simply taking deep breaths while my eyes were closed and my mind was on a single point in space – no thoughts or questions.

Some other styles are more hands-on, such as focusing attention on breathing so that your body can more easily relax and your thoughts became more tranquil.

Guasha Techniques

Gua sha is an ancient traditional Chinese Medicine technique used to expel ‘pathogens’ stuck in the channels or tissue. In other words, the technique breaks up stagnation (stuck/congealed) blood and lactic acid between muscle fibres to provide pain relief and encourage a healing response in the area.

The services may be performed with a Gua Sha jade stone or even a ceramic soup spoon. A practitioner may even use a Bian stone or a buffalo horn.

Gua Sha promotes micro trauma that speeds up cell activity in the area and signifies to the body that there is stasis (blockages/blood or fluids not freely moving). The technique encourages the body to be moved.

Typical applications of this technique in different conditions include: Bell’s palsy, headaches, body pain (muscle pain or injuries), mastitis, stomach ulcers, constipation, general pains related to any condition, stress related symptoms of any kind, restricted movement of joints and muscles. Please consult your TCM Doctor  to see if this technique is right for you.

Tui Na or Massage Therapy

If you’re looking for massage services that provide a deep healing experience combined with stretching, softness, mobility and overall stress relief – Tui Na is the perfect solution. This ancient art form has been used for thousands of years by the Chinese, and it’s still as popular today in countries around the world.

Although Tui Na massage is generally seen as a therapeutic massage, it can benefit all areas of your being. It is also suitable for use by anyone, at any age, as it promotes the well being of the whole person, rather than just the physical body.

There are several different types of Tui Na massage therapy techniques and services, and there are even more benefits that you can receive through Tui Na massage.

These benefits include the reduction of stress, improved circulation, enhanced immune system function and balance, improved mood, relaxation, pain relief, reduced muscle tension, pain relief from swelling, whiplash and other related conditions and more.

In fact, Tui Na massage is used to help many people who suffer from conditions such as Fibromyalgia, Autism, Rheumatism, Osteoarthritis, Multiple Sclerosis and more. Some conditions that Tui Na can treat or alleviate include: headaches, migraines, joint pain, stress, insomnia, asthma, sinus problems, muscle tension, backaches, tendinitis, muscle spasms, periodontal disease, aging, skin conditions, tendinitis and more.

Tui Na massage is also beneficial for pregnant women because it is extremely soothing to the muscles and tissues of the abdomen and lower back.

Muscle and Mind Health

Healthy muscles are the basis of a healthy, well-built body. The more muscle that you have, the more likely you are to avoid injury, even if you are a woman. Avoid joint damage. Build stronger bones. Improve your overall energy level with regular aerobic exercise.

While you do build muscle strength and build better bones and joints as you grow older, you still need to pay special attention to your nutrition. Even as you age, your diet must include plenty of calcium, vitamin D, and protein to keep your muscles healthy and your bones strong. Dietary services are available to help you on your way.

The most important nutrient for muscle health is protein, so it should be included in almost every meal you eat.

There are many other ways to strengthen your muscles and to keep them strong and healthy. Weight lifting is one of the best ways. Playing sports like tennis or racquetball will also help you develop good muscle health.

It is easy to get distracted by all the new trends in exercise and workout equipment, but you can still get strong muscles by doing things like push-ups, sit-ups, crunches, leg extensions, and more. These are all proven ways to not only get and stay healthy, but to also strengthen your muscles.

Self Care

Chinese Medicine practitioners take a holistic approach when it comes to their services and adjusting lifestyle habits. When it comes to lifestyle for example, we encourage sleep between the hours of 10 pm – 3 am for cellular recovery and best organ recovery and recovering our Yin (fluids/Liquid energy) over night.

We also recommend eating breakfast between 7-9 am as this is the best time for our Spleen and Stomach organs to digest and break down food. Dietary therapy is unique to every single patient as each human has different imbalances at different times throughout life.

For example, someone with too much internal heat and trouble falling asleep would be advised to avoid hot spicy foods like chilli, some spices and red wine.

TCM Doctors look to ensure one’s exercise program is stimulating enough and/or not too tiring, as well as making sure the patient has enough restorative time (meditation etc) to recover the body and mind which encourages balance and peaceful health.
