There are countless benefits to cupping but can Cupping help you detox?
This article will outline some of my personal favorites around how cupping is such a basic yet highly advanced tool in triggering healing responses within our tissues. The number one reason we all need cupping in our modern-day world is the concept of ‘Blood stasis’.
Blood stasis is a Chinese Medical diagnosis where the effectiveness or efficiency of blood flow is impaired in some way. Many years ago blood stasis would occur due to emotional or physical trauma to an area of the body, but due to our modern day choices around medications and sedentary movements, blood flow and diffusion across capillaries slows down.
Toxic load is the main concern from my personal perspective as this seems to trigger auto-immune disorders, cancer and other metabolic disorders. Some further examples of toxins are make-up products, cleaning products, antibiotics, most medications (ex: steroids), poor quality water and processed food.
Cupping is a form of mico-trauma that encourages healing to ‘speed up’, how phenomenal is that?
It is non-invasive (although the cupping marks really do not look too appealing). With the right applications of cupping, you can access deep levels of the body’s tissue or organs and start to ‘detox’ and stimulate healing. Not many therapies can offer this in such a quick and effective way.
Cupping also improves mico-circulation, capillary endothelial cell repair, accelerates granulation and angiogenesis in tissue areas.
How does this remove the toxins from the cells?
Cupping removes toxins from the cells through its suction function and diffusion stimulation. The circulation is stimulated and interstitial compartments of the tissues release ‘cell waste’. Once the interstitial parts of the cells have the waste floating around, the body can then easily remove anything unwanted through the lymph and other pathways. It is important to drink 2 big glasses of room temperature or hot water post cupping therapy so the body has plenty of fluid to help urinate cellular waste that has been released.
What else can cupping offer to my health?
Cupping may also reduce LDL (low density lipoproteins) which directly link to cardiovascular disease. It can also increase red blood cell production, drain excess fluid and revitalize connective tissue. Preventative measures are always much more effective in managing community health issues.
Once the body is significantly diseased, it can take longer for the body to recover. Cupping performed by a qualified TCM Doctor, can prevent progression or speed up recovery from a large range of diseases. The markings of the cupping are traditionally used as a diagnostic tool to see the state of the internal organs and how they are operating.
How often should I be receiving therapy to help reduce the toxic load in the body?
Everyone should be receiving cupping therapy from a qualified TCM doctor at least once a month as preventative medicine against any disease.
Number one is modern day blood stasis is much worse than it used to be as our toxic load in the body is higher than ever with alcohol and chemicals in medications and cleaning or skin products.
Everyone should be incorporating some kind of ‘detoxing’ into their day to day or weekly lifestyle, otherwise the toxic load of our lifestyles will accumulate and appear months to years later on in many forms (disease, fatigue, skin issues, faster aging etc).
Are there other ways Chinese Medicine can help me detox?
The short answer is yes. However, it is up to the patient to make day-to-day adjustments to how they eat, what drinks they consume and how they eat.
Some basic principles of detoxing include ensuring all teas are organic as non-organic teas are usually sprayed with chemicals, try to eat organic food if possible, only eat food that is non-processed (pretty much do not consume anything from a packet) and avoid stimulants (coffee, pre-workout, drugs, medications etc) as they exhaust organs and their function will decline.
The weaker our organs are, the harder it is for their natural elimination processes to function at 100%!
What if you’ve had a history of alcohol, medication or substance consumption, can Chinese Medicine help my organs recover? The short answer is again, yes. But it depends on how committed the patient is to taking on advice and making lifestyle adjustments.
It also depends on the ‘damage’ that has been done to the organs and what ‘weakness’ one person may have inherited from their parents.
Each individual person requires thorough investigation and assessment, therefore it is important to seek consultation from your qualified TCM Doctor or myself, one on one.
